For the many millions of people worldwide who suffer with acne, the fact that it is the most common of all skin complaints is no consolation and it is not solely a condition suffered by young people. Although not confined to teenagers, it is usually at this point in their lives when it is more likely to show and the figures indicate that as many as 9 out of 10 people will have acne at some time during their life.
Generally, acne is the result of excess oil or sebum in the hair follicles but this is not the only cause nor does it mean that over production of oil equals acne either. It is this oil which is trapped inside the pores which creates the recognizable pimple but this seems to be a more modern condition amongst the population.
Clogged pores can also be caused by things like makeup, atmospheric pollution and the reason more young people seem to suffer with it, hormone adjustments but at least it is a treatable condition. Of course there are other reasons that can contribute to the formation of acne including the poor diet that most people exist on nowadays which is full of reprocessed, fast foods that are high in sugar.
For a recurring or severe case of acne, many sufferers turn to a dermatologist for a more aggressive treatment and in most cases, a prescribed routine and medication can help to treat acne. Usually, follow-up visits will be necessary to that the acne is being cured without further intervention being required. During this time in particular it is important to ensure that fingernails are cleaned thoroughly and regularly as they harbor dirt, germs and bacteria that can aggravate the condition.
The problem comes about because most people do not realize that bacteria and germs cannot normally be seen by the naked eye and they believe if their nails look clean they are safe. To be on the safe side it is always wiser for an acne victim not to touch any of their pimples with their hands just in case.
The chances of perfect skin are virtually zero and you are more likely to suffer with acne if your parents also had the condition. Although the likelihood is that you will suffer from acne during your years at school and college. When the condition is affecting the individual both physically and emotionally then this is a good time to take advice from a dermatologist.
