There are many factors that cause and change the level of our blood pressure and we need to consider these when assessing high blood pressure. Factors like our emotional state, respiration or breathing difficulties, recent exercise or lack of fitness. A recent heavy meal may cause fluctuations. In addition there are the vices of smoking and drinking alcohol to take into account. The list goes on with age, gender and even racial origin as aspects to consider, as well as medical conditions like basic aches and pains such as a headache or even bladder problems.
So when having your blood pressure taken, try to relax. The doctor or medical professional will if possible sit you in a quiet room with the temperature set at a comfortable degree. If you are attending a surgery, arrive a few minutes early so that you have an opportunity to relax before the blood pressure is taken. Don’t arrive late and flustered or your test reading may well be worse than it needs to be.

If it is within normal limits then the blood pressure can be taken.
